The 10 Weeks Festival is part of a new initiative called Arts in Action. This initiative is an effort led by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks to help sustain the arts in our community. Arts in Action: The 10 Weeks Festival was conceived by area art organizations and universities to bring Springfield's cultural offerings under one brand to raise money for arts in education and basic needs for children in Springfield Public Schools.
So, what does all of that mean?Arts in Action feels that to sustain the Arts, the Arts have to help sustain the community.
If you attend one of the over 100 already-scheduled events during The 10 Weeks Festival, you might see an Arts in Action envelope in your program or be asked to donate $1 at the box office. You will also probably see an Arts in Action donation box at the venue and possibly a very nice person in an Arts in Action t-shirt by the donation box. You can place a $1 (or more) in the envelope and put it in the donation box or just drop your loose change in the box without an envelope. Checks are fine as well and if you want to donate via credit card, you can do that on this site by clicking on the g
ive online feature. All donated funds collected throughout The 10 Weeks will raise money for the following:
Arts in Education Endowment at the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, established to provide funds to area arts organizations to take their programs into area schools.
Care to Learn Fund (
www.CaretoLearnFund.com) established to help meet the basic needs of Springfield Public School students including, but not limited to, items regarding health, hygiene and hunger. All donations given to this fund are matched 4 to 1. So, if Arts in Action: The 10 Weeks Festival raises $5,000 for the Care to Learn Fund, it will actually become $25,000.
What is the goal? $10,000 in 10 Weeks. In 2009 we surpassed our goal with a grand total of 11,690.00. The Spring 2010 festival begins on March 12 and runs through May 27.
Arts in Action: The 10 Weeks Festival is just another reason why Springfield is a recognized Creative Community by the State of Missouri.
Arts in Action will conclude this year with the Springfield Branson National Airport's Flights of Fancy event. For more information,
